about

Originally released in cassette format which quickly sold out in 2020, Desire has been remastered for vinyl and features the original album artwork expanded for vinyl, including an excerpt from author Asesina Hudson’s novella Blob. Second Spring’s official vinyl release of Desire offers listeners the album in the physical format for which these songs were always conceived and intended.

Desire was recorded intermittently over the winter of 2018/2019 at studios in Vancouver and Winnipeg, and mixed/mastered by Jay Arner. Not only the first release under the name Fortunato Durutti Marinetti, Desire also marks a distinct shift towards greater collaboration and expanded instrumentation: violin, cello, keys and backing vocals feature prominently. Lyrically the album draws on such sources as Joan Didion, Chris Marker films, Georges Bataille, FASTWURMS, Chris Kraus, and Paul Auster in order to ruminate on desire as something both joyful and painful.

Drawing inspiration from the ruminative, explorative spirit of 1970s songwriters like Lou Reed, Robert Wyatt and Joni Mitchell, Colussi writes music that references baroque pop, jazz, folk, and post-classical archetypes which he categorizes as “poetic jazz rock.” His music is recorded and performed by an evolving crew of sympathetic collaborators.
